Exploring the remote World Heritage Coast of Dirk Hartog Island by 4WD
On this trip we were accompanied by: two families. We were a party of 11, with five children aged 8, 13, and 16.
Tour Duration : 10 days.
This guided 4WD adventure tour took a small group across WA’s Coral Coast, combining remote beach access with station stays and open outback driving. Over ten days, the route combined coast and desert, from the dunes of Dirk Hartog Island to the open plains of Steep Point.
Dirk Hartog Island by 4WD offers a rare experience, accessing a World Heritage coastline that’s rugged, isolated, and deeply tied to WA’s maritime history. Driving here means skirting wild beaches, seeing remnants of early shipwrecks, and covering terrain that only a well-prepared 4WD can handle. It’s remote in the truest sense, and that’s what makes it memorable. It was a dry run with no major weather occurrences, steady track conditions, and a well-prepared group. The crew drove well, with one notable moment spent assisting another party bogged in soft sand, a timely reminder of why knowledge, preparation, and the right gear matter on real 4×4 tours in Western Australia.
Along the way, we spent time on isolated beaches, crossed red sand flats, and camped under clear skies on station country.
