Australia as the final frontier – thoughts?
Everyone would initially link the Wild West with the United States, but Australia emerges as a vibrant runner-up, offering diverse landscapes and the vigour of a zealous nation.
Nowadays, cities like Los Angeles or Las Vegas have evolved into a different kind of wild. In many aspects, Western Australia retains the adventurous essence that maintains its allure.
Western Australia has always been extremely remote and harsh for people living here for ten thousand years. In today’s world, the contrast between vibrant Perth, old mining towns, and monumental landscapes is just more extreme, which I believe is a testament to the discoveries still unfolding in this vast, dynamic land. Yet, let’s acknowledge the nuance.
One example of how this adventurous spirit seeps into all aspects of life – I found it fascinating that it’s tradition for people to retire or for a change in life, pack up and traverse the country (today by car or camper van), mirroring the spirit of exploration? It’s an apt parallel to the indigenous way of life, where walking the land has been a tradition for generations.
Australia is a nation where an agile, risk-taking culture isn’t confined to history books—it thrives today.
Sometimes, when we drive up North, I see the retirees revving their camper vans or the tradespersons seeking opportunities in a newly developed mine site, ready to explore the vastness that stretches before them.
I’d love to hear from people who’ve traveled to this fantastic country and whether they’ve experienced something similar.
