Our Story
My wife, Tine and I have lived all over the world, but are continuously drawn to the beating pulse of Western Australia’s ultimate, untamed wilderness.
Having been career-driven professionals, our most precious asset is time, and our greatest desire is making memories with friends, family and each other. We’ve realised that success is not in the destination, but in the journey itself and that life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all. We need to dare to make our dreams come true.
Tine and my love affair with the Western Australian outback, its uncompromising beauty, remoteness, and fascinating culture begun eleven years ago. Since then, we have explored untamed country, discovered the oldest surviving people on earth and experienced unforgettable moments. We have carefully curated quintessential West Australian adventures and shared these authentic and unique travel experiences with family, friends of family and friends of friends of family, who continuously reach out to put their names down for our next off-road adventure.
It was for this reason, we started Proudback. Using our experience of what is needed to truly enjoy off-road outback adventures, we purchased four fit for purpose Land Cruisers and accessorised them with every amenity necessary to explore the wild and wonderful world of Western Australia at its most raw and real…and now we’re inviting you to accompany us.
QUESTIONS WE'RE OFTEN ASKED
Absolutely. Our first day is dedicated to comprehensive 4WD training, which ensures that when we depart Perth everyone is comfortable and familiar with their vehicle and has the knowledge of driving off road. We are also always driving in convoy with radio contact, so you never have to navigate the complexities of off-road driving alone.
Our vehicles are manual transmission, to ensure that you have the finest off road driving experience. A valid driver’s license is required to operate the vehicles.
Not at all, however we need to provide for an extra driver in case of emergencies. Please advise at your time of booking. Please note that on some of the days, we drive relatively long distances, due to the vastness of Australia, so if there is more than one driver in your vehicle, it’s nice to be able to share the load.
Our tours offer the unique experience of sleeping under the vast Australian night sky, and this is often cited as one of the tour highlights. We provide high quality, comfortable swags, linen and sleeping bags to ensure that you are comfortable and warm and can truly enjoy this unique outdoor slumber experience. Note: Double or single swags are available – please confirm at your time of booking.
Savoring local Australian cuisine and the preparation thereof is an integral component of our tours. If you have any dietary requirements, please share these with us and for the most part, we can accommodate these. On most evenings, we prepare our meals together, enjoying the opportunity to build comradery, try our hand at outdoor bush cooking and explore the ingredients from raw to cooked. We also find that some participants like to share their culinary specialties and ingredient preparation secrets, which we welcome and most of our travelers often ask for the recipes we have cooked and enjoy together, when they return home.
In some places, we do have internet access, but when we don’t we’re always equipped with a satellite phone in case of an emergency. We do have basic first-aid knowledge and the equipment required to handle most medical issues. If you have a preexisting medical condition, please advise us at the time of booking. Our journeys’ do take us into remote areas to experience Australia’s natural wonders, so while in some parts there is no reception, this provides a unique opportunity to truly disconnect and immerse yourself in nature.
It is important to advise us of any existing medical conditions you or any of your party have at the time of booking, as our journey does take us to remote areas where we are often far from hospitals and medical facilities. If you take medication regularly, please ensure that you have sufficient with you, as we will not be close to a drug dispensary for most of our journeys.
All our vehicles are designed for off road travel and accessorized to ensure peak performance and maximum comfort. We also travel with replacement parts and the necessary tools required, to repair our vehicles in the event of a breakdown.
Our tours are specifically designed to take you to some of the most remote and beautiful parts of Australia to experience its finest, natural beauty. As these places are often unable to be visited by most, we sometimes don’t have access to showers and/or flushing toilets. In these cases, we provide bio-degradable hygiene wipes (and often a swim in a river, creek or the ocean.) We are never away from amenities including showers and toilets for a period longer that 48 hours.
Our tour prices is fully inclusive of
– your dedicated 4WD vehicle

– motor fuel
– all camping equipment including crockery, cutlery, cooking equipment, swags, sleeping bags, linen, towels and all basic amenities
– Fees to access parks and all attractions listed in each tour, excluding those specifically highlighted as optional.

It is important that you can walk without assistance, but vigorous fitness is not required. The only thing we expect from our participants is to be adventurous, open-minded, and ready to embrace the unique experiences our journeys offer.
